Secret of Multi-tasking

Secret of Multi-tasking

                                     SECRET OF MULTI-TASKING

We have only one life and we want to do many things in life. We have long wishlist but we somehow achieve only few things from the long wish list. We do only few things. We have to earn our bread and butter. So the things which gives us monetary benefit become our profession, work or job. And rest of the things gets different names like passion, hobby and dreams.

So somehow everyone of us knows many things and we do posses multiple skills. In school days we take part in different competitions but as we grow, we surrender our-self to only one profession and then we don't follow our hobbies or passions so seriously. Some make their hobbies or passions as profession and they do the smart thing as they remain happy throughout the life at the same time never regret for their own decision. Getting success is altogether different story. But yes, we see many of them becoming very famous because they do what their heart says.

In Olympics we see many athletes taking part in different games and we feel really inspired and start feeling surprised about their capabilities and multiple talents. We sometimes call them as gifted individuals and convince ourselves that such multi-tasking people are god-gifted or we just feel that those are super-humans or exceptions. But that's not true in all cases. I have seen people who are simultaneously involved in many professions and still are successful in every area they venture. Does that mean that we can also become 'Multi-tasking' ? the answer is 'YES'.

I would like to share my own experience with you.And may be you will realize that - Yes; It is possible. Earlier in childhood; my first passion was 'writing'. I was good in Marathi and could write very well too. I bagged many prizes for my school in many inter-school competitions. But my drawing teacher found that I was good in drawing too and so forced me to apply for elementary and intermediate exams of drawings. I passed both with good grades and above all in all India-level drawing competition I bagged 2nd prize in our ward.I was good student but not of Merit-holder kind of material. But in Std.9 and 10th I completely devoted my time to studies and to every-ones surprise I became first Merit-holder student from our school and got 'Acharya Bhise Prize' for same.

Writing, drawing, studies etc. were my strengths. But I was always bad in sports. When I entered college, I realized for the first time that I was not the only Tees Maar Khan. I came across many students who were not only good in studies but also in extra-curricular activities. And for the first time I realized that - I was a small Tadpole of Well earlier and in my college I found many fully grown frogs for the first time. Yes, it was pond for me. And I was smart enough to realize that once college will get finished I will be thrown in big sea and that made me realize the importance of 'Jack of all things and Master in One' kind of philosophy.

In life it's really very important to learn some skills which will give you bread-butter even if you lose Job or find it difficult to get one early. During my graduation years my academic performance was at its worst level ; reason being my first ever serious one-side love for a girl who never even liked me. Huh. Guys trust me. you can destroy yourself if you can not control your emotions. I was so busy to ride on the emotional roller coaster that I completely lost the track and became complete filmy. Those were the days when ShahRukh Khan was my love guru and I was one of his sincere disciple. Bad days also teach you good things. I started writing scripts, shayaries and poetries in the same period. I wanted the good presentations of my scripts and so I even started direction. Well some more skills and some more recognition of my potential.

To get that girl, I wanted to start earning at really early age which made me completely insane and in the age of studies I decided to work. I attempted many odd businesses in those years like Multilevel Marketing, Data Entry vendorship, Silver extraction from hypofixer solution etc. But I couldn't make a sustainable business out of any of the project till I became 22. When the girl I loved left me, I was quite broken inside and all my struggle turned into my biggest mistake. I neither had a girl and nor had any degree at that time. I found myself as the biggest emotional fool on this earth who doesn't think with brain. Meanwhile the depression & broken heart had made my morale so much down, that I lost my confidence and became couch potato for many months..

I went back to college and completed my final year of B.Tech.But now when I had degree I didn't had enough knowledge. I was not ready enough to work in chemical field and found myself completely useless. Then came the first turning point of my life and my first ever successful business. I started 11th-12th coaching classes with my friend in Santacruz. Four years and 650 students; we were doing good. Now I had some more skills added to my resume; teaching, counselling and administration. When you work for yourself you have to have knowledge of all the aspects of your business. When my partnership broke with him I had only two options left in-front of me; either to start my own coaching classes or to go for further studies. I selected the second option. I did MBA in Marketing

I could very well relate the study of MBA with my own previous ventures and trust me I also realized reasons of my previous failures during the MBA period itself. Unfortunately my college didn't provided me the knowledge what I was actually looking for .I always wanted to become 'Entrepreneur' but my college was production machine of honest and loyal employees. So once again one more degree in hand and completely unaware of what next; I joined NIIT as Marketing Manager. The only best thing which I learned in two months there is 'Event management' and after leaving NIIT in I planned an all Mumbai level drawing competition for children. A new skill of event management helped me establish our new brand Ashwamedh Kalamanch very early.

To establish Ashwamedh Kalamanch I started a blog. Blogging helped me develop the most important area of Marketing. i.e Social Media Marketing. I used Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blogger, Slideshare to the best possible way. I used Google Adwords and Google Adsense too. Considering the high cost of event management we slowly shifted to Video-making. We made short-films, web serials, public ads and some general videos in span of two years. Now apart from script writing and direction, I had two more skills with me; Editing and Music Composition.I tried to learn basics of Picasa and Creative kit to make Posters to promote Ashwamedh Kalamanch's project.

But the most important thing which I did for my survival was - learned Investment and Portfolio management. From 2010 to 2012 I kept appearing for NCFM modules and kept gaining knowledge about different instruments of investment. I kept promoting this within my close friends and also got some good clients with good enough portfolios which can help me earn by earning profits for them. Share market knowledge also helped me to enter B-schools as Project guide. I started guiding MBA students of Finance in Share Market related projects. I guided some Welinkar students and now I am guiding Sydenham and Alkesh Modi students too.

I want to encourage all my students through this post and want them to understand that if you are ready to work hard and keep your mind open to learn new things; even you can become 'multi-tasking'. Remember, I have seen worst phase of life and I was a biggest loser once. The day I realized that I don't have anything to lose now; I kept winning by taking small small steps in life.

Yes, but I also want to tell some practical things which you must realize. You must have specialization in something. i.e. Mater in One. to become multi-tasking personality fearlessly. Also you must be confident enough to travel the tough learning path with patience and persistence.

My learning is not over yet. I have to learn many more things. I will learn photoshop and Corel draw. I have to learn Commodity market in more detail and above all I have to learn the most important thing networking with people and learn to gain venture capital. Many more things to learn..

Remember what late Steve Jobs has said:  STAY HUNGRY. STAY FOOLISH.
